A Blog by Einah Lyrnshane Dela Cruz

This blog serves not just a requirement but it serves as my learning in Laboratory Management for the whole second semester. Yes, there were only 3 topics per period but my learning isn’t contained in this blog. At least someday, if I decided to set up my own lab, what I’ll do is to recall all the things that were taught to me in this subject in order for me to build a successful laboratory.  This is a really great help because who knows what path we’ll be taking in the future, right? What matters the most are the things I’ve learned and the things I will remember and will be able to recall once ‘Laboratory Management’ will be mentioned to me.

I hope you’ll be able to learn something from my blog, it isn’t as creative as the others but at least I’ve put information that is significant not just in the laboratory but in our own lives as well.

Thank you and God bless!

Finals 1 - Fire Prevention

Fire prevention was discussed under the Safety Management chapter. Fire prevention is a very important precaution measure to be done and observed not just inside the laboratory but also everywhere. People should know what to do when fire started to occur. This is to avoid bigger damages and casualties when fire accident occurs. A knowledgeable person has an advantage because this will help you lessen the destruction that may happen.

There are 4 classes of fires:

Class A fires – this is the most common and usually started by ignition of paper or wood materials and other similar to this type. And this fire can be extinguished by water.

Class B fires – Flammable liquids such as alcohols, gases and solvents may cause this kind of fire. Dry chemicals or Carbon dioxide are used to extinguish this kind of fire.

Class C fires – these are electrical fires in nature. And usually it is extinguished by dry chemicals and carbon dioxide.

Class D fires – Combustible chemicals or metals such as sodium or magnesium are the causes of these fires. They can be extinguished by specialized extinguishers such as sand or bulk materials.

Knowing this information will greatly help you in cases of fire emergencies. But remember, prevention is better than cure. Knowing how to put away fire that causes damage to property and human kind is good but being cautious of our surroundings and try our very best to avoid causing any kinds of fire is better.

Finals 2 - Key Elements to the process of Financial Management

Financial Management is defined as the management of finances of a business or organization in order to achieve financial objectives.

KEY ELEMENTS TO THE PROCESS OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

Financial Planning – in this key element the management needs to ensure that enough funding is available at the right time to meet the needs of the business.

Financial control – this key element helps the business ensure that it is meeting its objectives.

Financial decision making – in this key element, there were key aspects of financial decision making that are related to investments, financing and dividends.

These key elements are very significant on the business that is on the process of fulfilling its financial goals and objectives. These elements will be served as guides whether the plans and decisions that the organization is applying are still effective and will still maintain the goal and the objectives of its financial management.

Finals 3 - Promotion tools

Promotional tools are being used to be able to establish information of a product or service to many people. These tools are very useful to let people know about your organization’s offers, products, and services. To be able to disseminate information to ordinary people that were just walking by or staying at their home. People knowing your services and products are very important.

Different kinds of Promotion tools:
Advertising – this promotion tool can be any type of non-personal presentations such as displays and ads in newspapers and journals as well as brochures and flyers.

Sales Promotion – a short-term discounts and product incentives.

Personal selling – this is selling through a personal service representative

Publicity – this is a non-commercial, informational presentation issued through the news media and other public forms such as social clubs and educational institutions.

Creativity is one of the important factors that a customer considers aside from the delivery and the content of the promotion tool presented. If how you presented your services or product was found appealing and catchy by the customers, they might consider availing your product or service. But nonetheless, what still matters are the content and delivery of the presentation for you to be able to persuade the customers to believe in your product and service.

Midterm 1 - Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

When this lesson was discussed to us, it was very familiar, because it was already discussed when we were in highschool. This lesson emphasizes the needs of a person: the primary and secondary. These needs are significantly important & these are: Physiological, Safety, Love/Belongings, Self-Esteem & Self-Actualization. Each of these needs is to be fulfilled by a person to be able to satisfy his/her life. One should be achieved before the other, because they are relatively significant to one other.

Midterm 2 - Product Research and Product Specifications

PRODUCT RESEARCH AND PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

Product research & product specifications are under Material Management. It is defined as assuring adequate quality of purchases. A product should be assured to have a good quality, because all customers surely wanted to not just experience an excellent service from an organization but also wants a good quality of the product he/she will be receiving. The team should be careful in choosing and specifying the products they will offer to their customers, because a good feedback from a customer is considered to be a part of the success.

Midterm 3 - Precision and Accuracy

PRECISION AND ACCURACY

Precision is the nearness of the values to one another & accuracy is the nearness of the value to the true value. And they’re very important in Quality Assurance. Especially on the laboratory where we perform many tests that requires both accuracy and precision. For our customers to trust us, what we give them should be an accurate and precise result, because their life depends on the tests we performed on them. Therefore, giving them inaccurate results put their lives at risk, which we always avoid as health care providers.
